The Recreation Department provides safe, fun activities for eligible participants. Our goals are to:

  • Participate or host activities or events within and outside the Native community.
  • Create positive memories for youth and their families to share.
  • Empower our youth and promote healthy lifestyles, traditional values, self-respect and respect for others.
  • Instill the necessary social, developmental and leadership skills to build a stronger community for our people today, tomorrow and for generations to come.

PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES

After School Program

The Tribal Recreation Center offers eligible participants supervised and structured after-school activities, including arts and crafts, holiday gift making, cooking, cultural enrichment activities, Me-Wuk language activities, group cooperative games, offsite activities, field trips and more. We also bring in guest speakers from other tribal departments: Cultural, Environmental, Health Center, Nursery, Tribal Security and the Tribal Fire Department.

Summer Youth Program

This program typically runs all summer long, from 8 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday. Eligible participants can take part in fun activities like hikes, pool/lake swim days, swim lessons, day trips to Yosemite, cultural activities, local cavern tours, live theater, museum tours, and visits to amusement and water parks.

Community Activities

During the year, the Recreation Department hosts a variety of community activities, such as community potlucks, BBQs, and Easter and Halloween parties. All participants must meet the eligibility requirements set by the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribal Community Council.
