The Tribal Security Department works directly with the Community Council and the Community Council members. Tribal Security has a Law Enforcement Commission made up of five community members who meet on a monthly basis. The Tribal Security department’s main objective is to protect and assist community members and all Tribal lands.

Mission Statement

The Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians Tribal Security Department seeks to establish and maintain harmony and cooperative relationships with the Tribal members for the purpose of improving security and maintain peace for the good of all on Tribal Lands.

What does the Tribal Security Department do?

Security's purpose is to patrol the lands and maintain the peace and security of persons and property within the Tuolumne Rancheria and on other lands over which the tribe maintains ownership and control.

Tribal Security Department Components

• Department Administrative staff consists of the Chief of Security, the Administrative Assistant, the Training Sergeant and two Patrol Sergeants. Their primary responsibilities are to:
  • Communicate with the Commission, law enforcement agencies, residents and employees, as well as department personnel
  • Supervise investigations, officers
  • Coordinate scheduling
  • Selecting, training, evaluating of personnel
  • Analyze security requirements and make recommendations to Commission.
  • Assist in Preparation of annual budget
  • Completes, maintains, oversees and processes pertinent reports, paperwork and records.

• Department Patrol Officers and Dispatchers complete the rest of the department staff. Their duties consist of:
  • Protecting the welfare of the Rancheria, tribal offices and tribal lands
  • Working for the benefit of the Tribal Community.
  • Making vehicle patrols of Tribal Lands.
  • Observe and reporting any suspicious activities.
  • Enforcing tribal code violations and hazardous conditions and/or individuals who may be involved in criminal activity.
  • Preparing activity logs, incident reports, as required
  • Attending department meetings and trainings on a regular basis
  • Maintaining a professional working relationship with all law enforcement agencies.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.

Employment opportunities

Applications are accepted for patrol officers, part time patrol officers, dispatchers and part time dispatchers on an ongoing basis. The Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribal Council Human Resources department handles the application process.
