MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribal Recreation Department
is to: Provide safe, fun, recreational activities for the
eligible participants of the program; Participate or host
activities or events within and outside of the native communities;
Create positive memories for youth and their families to
share for years to come; Empower the youth and promote
healthy life styles, traditional values and self-respect
as well as respect for others; Instill in the youth the
necessary social, developmental, and leadership skills
needed to build a stronger community for our people today,
tomorrow, and generations to come.
Services Provided by the Recreation Department
The Tribal Recreation Department has been mandated by
the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribal Council to insure the children
of the tribe are provided with the most comprehensive services
possible.
These services include, but are not limited to:
- Cultural Activities
- Entertainment Trips
- Educational Activities
- Provide a safe, supportive environment for children of all ages
- Conferences for Youth
- Life Skills -Prevention Skills
- Athletic Events, Clinics and Tournaments
- Museums
Examples of activities or services may include but are not limited to:
- Bowling League
- Movie Nights
- Bingo Nights
- Cooking Activities
- Informational Presentations (Example: HIV, Drug & Alcohol, Violence Prevention, Cultural etc.)
- Participation in Red Ribbon Week
- Arts and Crafts
- Games, Movies and Computers in the Youth Center
- Pool Tournaments
- Swim Nights at Tuolumne Pool
- Swimming Lessons
- Family and Community BBQs
- Trips to live Hockey, Soccer, Basketball and Baseball Games
For consistency within the Education/Recreation Department, a trip or activity is defined as 4 or more children.
TRIBAL YOUTH CENTER :
The Youth Center offers after-school activities that include, but are not limited to, pool tournaments, basketball, flag football, games, and arts and crafts.

Eligibility Requirements for Participation
The eligibility requirements for the Tribal Recreation Programs are:
- Any enrolled child who is between the ages of birth
to the child’s eighteenth birthday
- Only the Director of Educational and Recreational Services
and the Youth Activities Coordinator can make an event-by-event
basis exception to the above.
- Any enrolled member of the Tuolumne Me-Wuk Tribe
- Be a member of an enrolled members household on or
off the Rancheria
- Children living in Tuolumne County and are affiliated
to the tribe as enrolled or of lineal descent of an enrolled
member or who lives in a native household of a lineal
descent or enrolled tribal member.
- Children of an employee who works directly for the
Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians Administration Departments.
DEPARTMENT MAILINGS
Activity Calendars and Brochures are sent out monthly.
Any eligible participants not currently on the mailing list may contact the Tribal Recreation Department to be added.
Recreation Department Dress Code
The dress code will be enforced during all Tribal Recreation
Department activities, on and off site. The dress code
is established to ensure the safety of all participants:
children and adults. The dress code is also established
so that all participants will be properly equipped to participate
in activities and are modestly dressed while representing
the Tribal Recreation Department and the Tuolumne Me-Wuk
Tribal Council.
- Shirts and shoes will be worn at all times.
- No clothing with tobacco, alcohol or other inappropriate content.
- No strapless or excessively revealing clothing
- Clothing must conceal all underwear.
- Bathing suits should only be worn during planned water activities.
For planned activities all children and adults must wear
appropriate clothing and shoes, or they will not be allowed
to participate. If a participant violates the dress code
parent/guardian will be notified to correct the situation.
Please note: If an activity requires specific clothing,
for example, long pants, closed toe shoes, or a bathing
suit, all participants will be notified ahead of time.
